35 Maria liked to people her intimate circle with women of her own lineage. Thus she ensured the Lunas a preeminent social position, and at the same time was able to control them more effectively, uniting her role as queen with that of head of her noble line. Among her courtiers figured Brianda d’Agout (her mother), Brianda de Luna (her sister), Brianda and Eleonor Cornel (Brianda’s two daughters), as well as other Luna women: Isabel, Violant, and Joana (Maria’s niece). The Luna women appear repeatedly in the documentation. For example, Violant de Luna received an assignnation for board totaling 138 sueldos of Barcelona.
